VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Lawrence County Ambassadors

A service organization of approximately twenty young people (in junior or senior year, enrolled in Mitchell High School or Bedford-North Lawrence High School) help the elderly by raking leaves in the fall, playing cards and visiting, may prepare care packages for local military personnel, or collect food for the L.I.F.E. (Lawrence Inter-Faith Endeavor) pantry among other projects.

PROGRAMS OFFERING ORGANIZED ACTIVITIES

4-H and Youth Development

There are many clubs operating in Bedford and Mitchell for children and young people (kindergarten through twelfth grade) with many enthusiasms. Several camps and day camps are in operation during the summer.

Bedford Boys Club

Membership is open to any boy in the county or surrounding areas. The cost is $15.00 each year. Use of the game room and many activities are available to members for no extra cost. Other activities may require a fee. (Membership is $10.00 if paid when enrolling in an activity requiring a fee. Scholarships are available for program fees for the financially needy, with need determined on a case-by-case basis.) Some of the activities at the Boys Club are baseball, basketball, soccer, football, karate, wrestling, air rifle, and woodshop.

Limestone Girls Club

Membership is open to any girl in the county or surrounding areas. The cost is $15.00 each year. Use of the game room and many activities are available to members for no extra cost. Other activities may require a fee. Other activities include cooking, crafts, sewing, and physical activities such as basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball, gymnastics, and karate.

SCHOOLS

Tutoring Provided

Tutoring for homework, reading, and math is available at all schools during the school day. Additional tutoring is also available. Students and parents need to contact the counsellors at each school to make arrangements. Hatfield students contact the counsellor at Burris Elementary School.

Other Activities

Students at Mitchell High School can also participate in many activities, besides sports, sanctioned by the school, including, but not limited to, Tri-Hi-Y, Chess Team, S.A.D.D., Key Club, Art Club, Thespians, French Club, Family & Consumer Science Club, Science Club, Student Council, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Quill & Scroll, Photography Club, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
